Joe Troyer: When it comes to scaling your business, when it comes to scaling your business right now, not in the future, not what are you guys going to need 10 years from now, when it comes to scaling your business right now, like today, what’s the single biggest challenge that you have right now?

Joe Troyer: John [Guild] says, “Choosing a niche.” So, just I’m super, über clear, John Guild, are you talking about a B2B traditional agency, you’re trying to run and you want to niche down? Is that what you’re saying? Or do you run some type of other business? I just want to be über clear because I want help you. I want to really understand.

Joe Troyer: John says, “Choosing a niche.” “B2B, SEO,” John says. Okay. B2B, so John, when you say, “SEO,” are you selling just like Google Local? Are you doing maps in your SEO as well? How many really, really understand what it is you’re selling and let me know if you have a price point or packages that you’re selling at. Let me know that as well. What’s the thing that you need to get done every day? What’s that thing that you’re just not doing? All right. So, John, got you.

Joe Troyer: Right, so John Guild, more clarity, I’m getting. All right. “I have clients. I know very diverse optometrist, water/sewer repair, roofer. Do I try to scale them all?” John, who do you know that you can crush it for? Which of those customers love you to death? Which of them stand out? When you look at this, do you say, “I could work with this type of business long-term”? Do any of those things stand out to you, John? Do any of the clients stand out to you as a good pick? Okay. Okay. “None of them want to pay much.” Okay. Great. Have you shown them value yet? Are you showing to them and proving to them that you’re getting results, or not yet? Yes. “They rank on page one with best keywords.”

Joe Troyer: All right. So, you tracking phone calls, John? Are you showing them the results? Ranking on Google is one thing. Are you showing them that you’re getting phone calls? Understand that there’s lots of obstacles and lots of landmarks on the way to success. Success isn’t just overnight, so we got to take it as far as we possibly can.

Joe Troyer: So, it’d be hard with a roofer to show exactly how much revenue you’re breaking or you’re bringing them unless their accountant’s really good and they’re willing to go to those links with you. That’s not normal, though but we can at least show them the phone calls. If we wanted to, we can take it a step further and we can say, “This is how many new appointments you got.”

Joe Troyer: Okay, John says, “No. I don’t get much credit.” So, John, the focus for you right now needs to be showing your customers their results and being able to truly track what you’ve done for your customers. Until you can show them the return that they’re getting and the result that you are providing, you have no business asking for a raise. You have no business asking for more money and you definitely don’t want to pick out a niche yet.

Joe Troyer: So, you guys have all heard the saying eat the frog, right? In order, John, for you to get to what niche should I work, you got to eat the frog. The frog right now, the frog right now is really figuring out what kind of business results am I sending to my customers? What kind of results am I getting them? What’s tangible? Then, wrap that up around in a case study and that is your market now. That’s something that you should be able to get in place, call tracking, if that’s how you’re getting leads. Web forms, tracking those and analytics, maybe. You should be able to do that in the next week, have that set up. Have a week or two to get results. Now you’re ready to go slam it and go just balls to the walls going after that one niche. All right. Good.
